The PDO Muscat of Lemnos region encompasses the entire wine-growing area of the island of Lemnos. It produces sweet wines made from sun-dried grapes, as well as sweet fortified wines from sun-dried grapes. The exclusive grape variety used for their production is Muscat of Alexandria, which arrived on the island in the early 20th century, brought by Egyptian Lemnians.
The vineyards are shaped in a cup-like formation, and only traditional cultivation techniques are permitted. To enhance the plants' resilience to the island's dry and warm conditions, the planting density is kept low (350 - 400 plants per acre). Additionally, the height of the plants is kept low to protect them from the strong northern winds.
The wines exhibit a golden color with coppery highlights as they age. The aromas are intense, featuring notes of rose, orange peel, dried apricot, honey, nuts, and herbal hints. On the palate, the wine is rich and balanced, with a long aromatic finish.
