The PDO Sitia region stretches across the Ziros plateau and the mountainous areas of the central and southern parts of the eastern edge of Crete, as well as the slopes of the northeastern part of the island up to Sitia.
It produces dry white wines from the varieties Vilana (70%) and Thrapsathiri (30%), dry red wines from the blend of Liatiko (80%) and Mandilaria (20%), and sweet red wines (from sun-dried grapes and fortified) from the variety Liatiko.
The white wines have a pale yellow color with green highlights when young and a mild aromatic intensity, featuring subtle notes of lemon, pear, and white flowers, with a balanced body and a mineral finish.
The dry red wines exhibit a deep ruby color and develop garnet reflections as they age. They possess aromatic richness, with notes of red forest fruits, cherry, animal tones, and hints of wood if aged in barrels.
The sweet red wines feature an aromatic bouquet of ripe forest fruits, raisins, cassis, and dried flowers.
