The wines of the Protected Designation of Origin zone of Mavrodaphne
Kefalonia are red, fortified during fermentation, with an alcohol content
of at least 95% by volume. The varieties include Mavrodaphne (at least 51%), which may be optionally blended with Black Corinthian grapes. The viticultural zone is not uniform and also includes areas from the island of Ithaca.
The wines exhibit a deep red color, with aromas of black dried fruits
(plum, fig, cherry, raisin), sweet spices, coffee, and chocolate. They have a full body, with pronounced tannins, moderate acidity, and a long, sweet finish.
